Dakar, October 16, 2025 - The ongoing reconstruction of Hôpital Le Dantec will position Senegal as a benchmark player in healthcare infrastructure in the sub-region. The new facility will have a capacity of 660 beds and state-of-the-art technical facilities. This will include 15 operating theatres, high-precision imaging and radiotherapy equipment (scanner, MRI, angiography, radiotherapy), as well as specialized units.
Aligned with the best international standards in terms of medical infrastructure, the new facility will occupy three hectares of the six hectares of the former Le Dantec Hospital, enabling optimum use to be made of the remaining land.
With a view to turning Hôpital Le Dantec into a genuine medical and paramedical hub, FONSIS has been entrusted with the task of developing the residual land on the historic site into specialized medical and paramedical services, as well as modern facilities for carers, to complement the care offered by the capital's hospitals.
The investments required to achieve this ambition will be financed without recourse to government debt. It should be pointed out that there are several successful examples worldwide of schemes to use public assets to stimulate private investment in the healthcare sector.
The co-investment mechanisms envisaged with the private sector do not involve the sale of land. In particular, they are based on long-term land availability schemes, or contributions in kind with non-alienation clauses, guaranteeing the stability required for private investment.
The medical and paramedical hub project at Hôpital Le Dantec is currently in the study phase, which will enable us to specify the overall cost and the terms of the co-investment scheme selected.
Its implementation will help strengthen Senegal's health autonomy, reduce medical evacuations abroad and position Dakar as a regional hub for health and medical innovation.
