As the global financial system undergoes profound changes, Africa must define its own path, assert its economic sovereignty and strengthen its presence on the international financial stage.
On the occasion of the 4th annual meeting of the African Sovereign Investors Forum (ASIF), the
Director General of FONSIS, Babacar Gning, participated in a high-level round table on the theme:
‘Strengthening Africa's position in a changing global financial system’.
He highlighted the strategic role of African sovereign wealth funds, particularly their ability to:
- investing in high-potential SMEs to build national champions;
- supporting the growth of SMEs through initial public offerings (IPOs), thereby helping to consolidate local capital markets;
- structuring transformative projects and assuming a share of the risk to mobilise domestic savings for the productive economy.
This vision is shared by FONSIS, which places sovereign investment at the heart of the structural
transformation of African economies.
